Joseph Swayze 
Joseph was born in 1653 in Southold,Suffolk,New York and his baptism took place on September 12th, 1653 in Salem,Essex,Ma.1 Joseph's father was John Swayze and his mother was Katherine King. His paternal grandparents were John Swasey and UNKNOWN Margaret?; his maternal grandparents were William Kinge and Dorothy Haynes. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel, Mehitable, Sarah, Mary and Abigail. He died at the age of 64 on April 2nd, 1717 in Matituck,Suffolk,New York.1 General Notes

One source gives date of death as 1713. I have one source that lists a daughter Sarah born 1685. I do not have any person in my database that matches that person. I will look for a second source. According to the "Early Germans of New Jersey", there was a daughter named Sarah, and no listing for a son named William. The "Swezey History" by Richard Bayles lists a son William, and says there are letters from William to his parents from the army in 1746 and 1747. I believe this is incorrect. Both Joseph and Mary had died before 1746, and William would have been 50 years old and in the army if he was a son of Joseph and Mary. The 1686 census for Southold lists Joseph's family - 1 male and 4 females - That would be Joseph, his wife and 3 daughters (Joanna, Mary, Bethia). That matches my records.
I found a transcript of the 1698 census for Southold, NY. A Norris M. Taylor, Jr. identifies the individuals he finds there. According to Mr. Taylor, Joseph and Mary have 8 children living with them, and one of them is a Sarah Swezey. Based upon this interpretation of the 1698 census, and the information I found at other sources, I am going to add Sarah to this family.
I have a listing from the LDS Family ancestral File that list a Moses Sweezey (but no William) as a son of Joseph and Mary, with no further information other than birth date of 1684 - Why doesn't this Moses show up in the 1686 census if he was born in 1684? The LDS genealogy forum on the Internet also shows a birth of a William Sweezey (1693) for Joseph and Mary. I still have my doubts.
I have just reviewed my records, and I now see the confusion about a son named William. "Genealogy of the Swezey Family Long Island Branch", compiled by Rev. Frederick Phillips Swezey, from 'Swezey History" by Richard M. Bayles, and also from B.F. Swasey's book. Frederick Phillips Swezey miss-transcibed the information about William and letters to his parents from the war. William is not a son of Joseph and Mary
