Sally Laverne was born on September 2nd, 1916 in Monroe County, Indiana. Sally Laverne's father was Aaron Wampler and her mother was Rosezetta Frances Shields. Her paternal grandparents were John W. Wampler and Delcena Vaught; her maternal grandparents were James Madison Shields and Mary Jane Heltonburg. She had five brothers and five sisters, named Ray, Wendell Marshall, Richard Leon, John Lee, James W., Lucille Mildred, Viola Pearl, Wilma Jean, Georgie Bernice and Mary Jo. She was the fifth oldest of the eleven children.-
