According to the 1900 census, August came to the U.S. with Maria in 1885. They were married at Sacred Heart Church in Indianapolis on April 26, 1886. The officiating priest was Francis Haase, OFM. Their witnesses were Ignatius Kurreck and Catharine Kurreck. In 1900 they had been married for 13 years. August had not received naturalization papers. He worked as a laborer at Starch Works factory. They lived on Vinton St. in a home that they owned. August and Maria had 5 children all born in the U.S. but only 4 were living during the 1900 census. A 42 year old boarder was living with the family by the name of Joseph S??? during that time. He also was a laborer in the Starch Works factory. He was from Germany. During the 1910 census, August was still working for Starch Works. Their daughter Rosa was not living with them but the other 3 children were. Perhaps Rosa had gotten married before 1910 to ? Grady. Their son William was working for a company as an office boy. Josephine and Edna were not working at that time. Later, August worked for the Monon railroad as a flagman until his death April 21, 1924. He was 62 years of age. He died from Uremia. He was living at 1435 S. Illinois St. at the time of his death. Lauck funeral services handled his funeral service. Not sure where he is buried. Possibly St. Joseph cemetery.
