Anna and her husband came from Germany to the U.S. together in 1890. They traveled on the ship Hohenzollem from Bremen, Germany to Baltimore, Maryland which arrived on 11/1/1890. Anna was born in Germany in May 1859. Anna never became a US citizen but her husband did. In the 1920 census, Anna is living with son Anthony and Clara at 1410 Union St. Anton (son) is a cashier in a bank. During WW1 and WW2, the U.S. claimed her as an alien which she did not like. She considered herself an American. Anna used to tell her grandchildren about her childhood days. She told stories of how her church would alternate the language of German 1 week and then Polish the next week to accomodate the mixed congregation.
