John Dowell

John was born in 1793 in Bedford Co., Virginia.¹ John's father was Elijah Dowell and his mother was Jemima Board. His paternal grandparents were George Dowell and Margaret Ferguson. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Nehemiah, George, James, Elijah, Joel, Harrison, Dandridge, Elizabeth, Nancy, Jincey and Polly. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children.
