Fred was born about 1860 in Elsecar Yorkshire.1   Fred's father was William STEER and his mother was Harriott STEER. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Albert, John, Alaxander, Joshua, Collin, Olive, Emily, Myram, Susannah, Adelaide, Alberta and Harriott.  He was the sixth youngest of the thirteen children.
