Alberta was born about 1862 in Yorkshire.1   Alberta's father was William STEER and her mother was Harriott STEER. She had six brothers and six sisters, named Albert, John, Alaxander, Fred, Joshua, Collin, Olive, Emily, Myram, Susannah, Adelaide and Harriott.  She was the fourth youngest of the thirteen children.
