Harriet was born about 1865 in Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.1   Harriet's father was William STEER and her mother was Harriet STEER. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named John, Fred, Elick, Josuah, Colin, Birket, George, Frank, Adelaide and Agnes.  She was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
