Elizabeth was born in 1853 in Westhoughton.1  Elizabeth's father was Richard Woodward and her mother was Ann Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Geffrey (Jeffery) Mather and Catherine Gregory. She had four brothers named Geoffrey, William, Richard and Edward.  She was the third oldest of the five known children.
