Daisy was born in 1891. Daisy's father was James Winterbottom and her mother was Sarah Jane May. Her paternal grandparents were Emanuel Winterbottom and Mary Booth. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Arthur, Wilfred, Mary, Clara, Ivy and Connie. She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
