Thomas was born in 1833 in Saddleworth.1  Thomas' father was Robert Whitehead and his mother was Betty Wade. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Squire, John, Robert, Ann, Sarah and Minerva.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 52 in June 1885 in Saddleworth.2

‌Thomas and Ann were married in a religious ceremony on April 27th, 1857 in Saddleworth.3   They had a daughter named Frances.
