George was born in September 1903 in Tynemouth.1  George's father was Frederick C Westphal and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Coultard.  His paternal grandparents were Heinrich Christian Frederick  Westpfahl and (Juliane) Charlotte Focke. He had two brothers named Frederick and Septimus.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Thomas.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1905 in Tynemouth.2
