Joshua's father was Andrew Waddicar and his mother was Sarah Mather. His maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Rostron. He had three brothers named Charles, Peter and George. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at 3 months old in January 1873 in Edgworth.¹
