Thomas was born in January 1849 in Bolton and his baptism took place on April 8th, 1849 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Thomas' father was Thomas Tyson and his mother was Hannah Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Sutcliff. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Edward, Henry, Elizabeth and Hannah.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 1 in January 1850 in Bolton.  He was buried on January 22nd, 1850 at Christ Church, Bolton.
