Edward was born in September 1840 in Bolton and his baptism took place on May 12th, 1844 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Edward's father was Thomas Tyson and his mother was Hannah Mather.  His maternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Sutcliff. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Elizabeth and Hannah.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 27 in September 1867 in Bolton.  He was buried on September 30th, 1867 at St. Mary (Deane).3
