George was born in March 1870 in Congleton.1  George's father was James Tomlinson and his mother was Mary Ann Healey.  His paternal grandparents were James Tomlinson and Ann Craven. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, Willie, Elizabeth, James, Ann and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 6 in March 1876 in Manchester.2
