Richard's father was Charles Stocks and his mother was Sally (Ann) Tiffany.  His paternal grandparents were William Stocks and Sarah Brook. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, John, William, Sally, Sarah, Hannah and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 4 in July 1798 in Mirfield.  He was buried on July 14th, 1798 at St. Mary (Mirfield).¹
