Peter was born in 1752 in Kirkheaton and his baptism took place there on December 3rd, 1752.1  Peter's father was Emanuel Stocks and his mother was Susanna (Hannah) Wood.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Stocks and Elizabeth Bingley. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, Joseph, Benjamin, Joseph, Emanuel, Ruth, Thomas, Michael, Mary, Susanah, Martha and Elizabeth.
