Martha's father was Emanuel Stocks and her mother was Susanna (Hannah) Wood.  Her paternal grandparents were Joshua Stocks and Elizabeth Bingley. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named Isaac, Peter, Joseph, Benjamin, Joseph, Emanuel, Ruth, Thomas, Michael, Mary, Susanah and Elizabeth.

‌Martha and John were married in a religious ceremony on March 24th, 1788 in Kirkheaton.²
