Joseph's father was Emanuel Stocks and his mother was Susanna (Hannah) Wood.  His paternal grandparents were Joshua Stocks and Elizabeth Bingley. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named Isaac, Peter, Benjamin, Joseph, Emanuel, Ruth, Thomas, Michael, Mary, Susanah, Martha and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 2 in March 1758 in Kirkheaton.  He was buried on March 30th, 1758 in Kirkheaton.²
