James was born in March 1818 in Bolton and his baptism took place on April 5th, 1818 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  James' father was James Singleton and his mother was Alice Greenhalgh. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, John, Amelia, Alice, Elizabeth, Sarah and Martha.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at 5 months old in August 1818 in Bolton.  His burial was on August 19th, 1818 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2
