Elizabeth was born in June 1843 in Edgworth.¹

Elizabeth's father was Abraham Settle and her mother was Alice Mather. Her maternal grandparents were Isaac Mather and Alice Fielding. She had four brothers and a sister, named Stephen, William, John, Peter and Alice. She was the youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 30 in March 1874 in Bury.²
