Joyce was born in 1927 in Atherton.1  Joyce's father was Robert Seddon and her mother was Catherine Jones.  Her paternal grandparents were George Seddon and Sarah Jane Seddon. She had a brother and two sisters, named George, Kathleen and Janet.  She was the youngest of the four children.
