Thomas was born on March 21st, 1791 in Blackrod and his christening took place on April 10th, 1791 at St. Katherine (B'rod).1  Thomas' father was Joseph Riding and his mother was Molly Gorner. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Bernard, Margaret, Mary and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
