Mary's father was William Ramsden and her mother was Elizabeth Swinby.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Ramsden and Martha Haslam. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Samuel, Martha, Jane and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 6 in 1867 in Horwich.¹
