Jane's father was William Ramsden and her mother was Elizabeth Swinby.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Ramsden and Martha Haslam. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Samuel, Martha, Mary and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 2 in 1870 in Aspull.¹
