Solomon was born on March 4th, 1867 in Elton and his baptism took place on September 20th, 1867 at All Saints (Elton).1 2  Solomon's father was James Pilling and his mother was Alice Mather.  His maternal grandparents were Solomon Mather and Jane Scowcroft. He had a brother and three sisters, named Harrison, Elizabeth, Ada and Alice.  He was the second oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 2 in October 1869 in Elton.  He was buried on October 14th, 1869 at All Saints (Elton).3
