Elizabeth's father was James Pilling and her mother was Alice Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Solomon Mather and Jane Scowcroft. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Solomon, Harrison, Ada and Alice.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at 8 months old on April 29th, 1866 in Elton.  She was buried on April 29th, 1866 in Bury.³
