His paternal grandparents were James Miller and Susannah (Susan) Poole; his maternal grandparents were William Haddock and Sarah (Sally) Pickstock. He had four brothers and six sisters, named James, William, George, Christopher, Mary, Kate, Sarah, Phoebe, Emily and Florence. He was the fifth youngest of the eleven children.General Notes
