William was born in April 1849 in Warrington and his baptism took place on July 15th, 1849 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1 2  William's father was John Mather and his mother was Martha Antwist. He had a brother and four sisters, named Joseph, Margaret, Ann, Elizabeth and Emma.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 2 in April 1851 in Warrington.  He was buried on April 4th, 1851 in Warrington.3
