Thomas was born in 1755 in Ringley and his baptism took place on December 21st, 1755 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1  Thomas' father was James Mather Jnr and his mother was Mary. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Miles, Miles, Mary, Anne and Alice.  He was the youngest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named Lomas.  He died at the age of 1 in March 1756 in Ringley.  He was buried on May 13th, 1756 at St. Saviour (Ringley).1
