Thomas' father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Mary Ann Sansom.  His paternal grandparents were Matthias Mather and Mary Priestley. He had two brothers named Thomas and Henry.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Matthias, Thomas, Helen and Mary.  He died as an infant at 1 months old in November 1825 in Chorley.  He was buried on November 11th, 1825 in Chorley.²
