Sarah was born in 1833 in Manchester and her baptism took place on May 27th, 1833 at Manchester Cathedral.1  Sarah's father was James Mather and her mother was Maria Yates.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Matther and Sarah Hall. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, William, Isaac, Elizabeth and Maria.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
