Isaac was born in March 1838 in Manchester and his baptism took place on August 1st, 1838 at Manchester Cathedral.1  Isaac's father was James Mather and his mother was Maria Yates.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Matther and Sarah Hall. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Sarah, Elizabeth and Maria.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 1 in January 1840 in Manchester.2
