Sarah was born on November 4th, 1821 in Ramsbottom and her baptism took place on December 2nd, 1821 in Accrington.1  Sarah's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary (Nancy) Stott. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Eliza, Hannah, Rachel, Martha and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the eight children.
