Mary was born on November 10th, 1825 in Ramsbottom and her baptism took place on February 26th, 1826 in Salford.1  Mary's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary (Nancy) Stott. She had two brothers and five sisters, named John, James, Eliza, Hannah, Rachel, Martha and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the eight children.
