Robert's father was Josiah (Joseph) Mather and his mother was Amelia Vicars.  His paternal grandparents were Matthias Mather and Mary Priestley. He had a brother and two sisters, named Robert, Mary and Eliza.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 74 on October 24th, 1914.  He was buried in Southport.
