Richard was born in 1865 in Edgworth.1  Richard's father was Richard Mather and his mother was Betty Booth.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Rostron. He had six brothers and a sister, named William, John, Lambert, John, Fred, Albert and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
