Ralph Mather

Ralph was born in August 1822 in Withnell and his baptism took place on August 4th, 1822 in Brindle.¹²

Ralph's father was Edward Yates and his mother was Mary Mather. His maternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Ann Clarkson. He had a brother named Ralph. He was the younger of the two children. He died at the age of 49 in March 1872 in Withnell.³

  In 1851, Ralph and wife Margaret Mather (29 & 28) were living at School Lane, Withnell, neighbours of his great grandmother Ann Mather (60) and uncle John Mather.

    - Henry and Ralph, both 15 in 1841 and bastard children, living with their assimed grandmother Ann (60) at Withnell. Ralph was baptised son of Mary, a single woman and Henry son of Peggy single woman. They grew up as "brothers" but were actually half-cousins.
