Peter was born in December 1853 in Billinge.1  Peter's father was William Mather and his mother was Mary Moyers.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Betty Houghton. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Elizabeth, Ann and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
