Mary Mather

Mary was born in September 1839 in Edgworth.¹

- There are other MATHER+SMITH births after 1844, but that was at Westhoughton for brothers William and Joseph and their two family.

Mary's father was Isaac Mather and her mother was Sarah Smith. Her paternal grandparents were Solomon Mather and Mary (Mally) Grime; her maternal grandparents were Henry Smith and Betty Rigby. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, James, Henry, Elizabeth, Susannah, Mary and Sarah. She was the oldest of the eight children. She had a half-sister named Fanny. She died at the age of 1 in October 1840 in Massachusetts (MA). Her burial was on October 13th, 1840 in Massachusetts (MA).²

- Mary was probably names after her mothers closest sister Mary Smith (and also Susannah named after the other b.1849).
  
  Mary must have died young (but not in Lancashire), as another Mary was born in 1851. There is no death record for her at Bolton.
