Mary was born in June 1857 in Bolton.1  Mary's father was James Mather and her mother was Ann Riley.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Mary Cunliffe. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, Richard, Thomas, Susannah, Mary, Sarah and Jane.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.




Mary's family with William Hulme

‌Mary and William were married in a religious ceremony in December 1878 at Bolton Emmanuel.3  They had three sons and four daughters, named Thomas, William, Robert, Alice, Elizabeth, Elizabeth and Isabella.  There are no more children.
