Mary was born in 1763 in Pennington and her baptism took place on June 19th, 1763 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  Mary's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Mary Mather. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, Thomas, John, Joseph, Robert and Catherine.  She was the second youngest of the seven known children.
