Mary was born in 1827 in Bolton and her christening took place on June 17th, 1827 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Mary's father was Matthias (Mathew) Mather and her mother was Marcella Honeyford.  Her paternal grandparents were Matthias Mather and Mary Priestley. She had two brothers and a sister, named Richard, Matthias and Emma.  She was the second oldest of the four children.  She died at the age of 69 in March 1896 in Oldham.3
