Maria Mather

Maria was born in March 1825 in Kearsley and her baptism took place on January 8th, 1826 at St. Saviour (Ringley).¹²

  This implies Maria was baptised at the Chapel St, Independent, Halshaw Moor church, which is now where Chapel Street is, off Market St (A6053), and very near Farnworth Station.

Maria's father was Samuel Mather and her mother was Margaret Dawson. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Eunice Ashton. She had two brothers and five sisters, named James, Francis, Maria, Rosamond, Alice, Eunice and Martha. She died at the age of 62 in December 1887 in Ashton-under-Lyne.³

  The marriage record of 1846 shows Maria's father was Samuel, a Weaver from Turton. Is this the same Samuel Mather, because (Maria was missing on the 1841 census)? Samuel's sister was Maria, so may well have named a daughter after his closest sister.
  
  There was a Maria, baptised 8-Jan-1926 in Ringley, daughter of Samuel Mather and Margaret from Kersley, so this is her (Francis and Eunice also baptised there), and Maria was a minor when she married 6-Feb-1846.
