Margaret was born in December 1870 in Bolton.1  Margaret's father was John Mather and her mother was Catherine Smith.  Her paternal grandparents were James (Jacobi) Mather and Margaret Wood. She had three brothers and three sisters, named James, John, Joseph, Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
