Margaret's father was John Edward Mather and her mother was Grace Durham.  Her paternal grandparents were George Mather and Hannah Simm. She had three brothers and six sisters, named John, William, Charles, Hannah, Jane, Betsy, Mary, Sarah and Ada.  She died at the age of 1 in 1880 in Edgworth.¹
