James was born in January 1754 in Rumworth and his baptism took place on January 29th, 1754 at St. Mary (Deane).1 2  James' father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah Watson. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Richard, James, James, Alice, Mary and Sarah.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at 3 months old in April 1754 in Rumworth.  He was buried on April 16th, 1754 at St. Mary (Deane).3
