James was born in June 1758 in Rumworth and his baptism took place on June 26th, 1758 at St. Mary (Deane).1 2  James' father was James Mather and his mother was Sarah Watson. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Richard, James, James, Alice, Mary and Sarah.  He was the third youngest of the seven children.  He died as an infant at 1 months old in July 1758 in Rumworth.  He was buried on July 18th, 1758 at St. Mary (Deane).3
