James was born in 1742 in Middle Hulton and his baptism took place there on February 12th, 1742.¹

Birth Notes

James' father was Ralph Mather and his mother was Elizabeth Bradley. His paternal grandparents were Ralph (Radi) Mather and Abigail Mather. He had a brother and two sisters, named William, Abigale and Alice. He was the second oldest of the four children.
